I cannot imagine the degree of emotion these young girls must feel on that fateful day. As I painted her features, her scars, and eyes, I tried to imagine what her innermost thoughts would be and impart them in her glance. Such transparency her husband would likely never see. We however, as onlookers outside their traditions, are free to show our compassion and concern. We must also, however, take care to never judge until we first learn to understand.
