Until I was commissioned to do this work, I had no idea what a “Fully Dressed” fly lure was. When I did a little internet surfing, studying the delicate lure the fly fisherman had given me, I ran across the technical speak, “Fully Dressed Salmon Fly Pattern”, and the title of this piece was born. I spent a lot of time trying to determine how best to display the beautiful colors involved in the fly and how to put its size into perspective. I wanted to place it as it would be used, not just paint a likeness of the colorful fly. By adding a fallen leaf to the river rock setting I enable the viewer to know the true size of it. The soft, orbed shapes of the river rocks add dimension and interest, drawing attention to the fine detail of the dry fly. The rocks also provide a pleasing color compliment with their muted purplish and ambered hues.
The fly fisherman who commissioned this painting donated the rights to the piece for the benefit of my favorite ministry, Salt Mountain. Your purchase of this print, whether for yourself or the fish lover in your life, will benefit the ministry and its service to Pastors and their families. The original work, has been sold of course but archival quality, limited edition giclée prints are available on heavy watercolor paper in a variety of standard and custom sizing.
