Dressage Discipline Sport Equine Horse

The Reach

12 x 16 Watercolor Original*

I wrestle with the equine subject more than any other model. Trying to portray their incredible power, in two dimensional form, I find incredibly challenging. Having once been a “wanna-be” dressage rider, I am entranced by how incredibly talented some horses are. Most of the time more-so than their riding partner. “The Reach” is a message that speaks to that ability. Some horses are true athletes and all heart when it comes to the discipline of their sport. I tried to capture the concentration and obedience necessary when under the pressure to perform and meet the superior levels of their sport. Intense focus and determination all are required of both the horse and the rider to excel.

This dramatic painting has been accepted into the 8th Annual Rocky Mountain Horse Expo, 2017 Equine Art in the Park Show, hosted by the Colorado Horse Council and will be judged on its merit by the esteemed judge, Peggy Judy. I am honored and flattered that this work has been chosen to be displayed at such a prestigious show. Unfortunately this also means that until notice of the result of judging and potential sale through the Show, I am not able to offer this piece for sale outside the event until after April 15, 2017. If you are interested in purchasing this work prior, please contact the show directly.

“The Reach” is painted as part of a grouping of works with consistency of both color palette and subject along with Whimsical Drama.
